Don’t you just love awards season? Last night the British Academy Film Awards 2019 took place with the creme de la creme of the movie and television world gathering to celebrate some of this year’s big screen triumphs.
The BAFTA Winners
The Favourite was one of the night’s biggest successes with a whopping seven awards being won by the period movie including Olivia Colman scooping Leading Actress and Rachel Weisz taking home Supporting Actress. The film also took awards for Outstanding British Film, Costume Design, Make-Up & Hair, Original Screenplay and Production Design.
Another big winner on the night was Rami Malek who won Leading Actor for his role as Freddie Mercury in Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody. Mahershala Ali took the prize for Supporting Actor for Green Book while Roma won both Best Film and the movie’s director, Alfonso Cuarón took the Director award.
BlacKkKlansman took the prize for Adapted Screenplay against nominees including Can You Ever Forgive Me?, First Man, If Beale Street Could Talk and A Star Is Born.
Letitia Wright, star of Black Panther, scooped the EE Rising Star Award which was voted for by the public. During her acceptance of the award, Letitia spoke out about her previous struggle with depression revealing that she almost quit acting. “I want to thank everybody who said yes to me, that gave me a chance, and just saw my talent and saw what God placed in me, and said ‘yes’,” she said.
The Guest List
The stars were out in force for the British Academy Film Awards with a whole host of famous faces taking to the red carpet. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were also in attendance as BAFTA President William presented the Fellowship Award to film editor, Thelma Schoonmaker. Kate wore a stunning Alexander McQueen gown and was seen chatting with new star of The Crown, Olivia Colman on the red carpet.
