Despite finishing in second place on the X Factor in 2009, Olly Murs has become one of the biggest stars to grace the stage of the show.
The singer and television presenter sat down with No.1 to talk about his career, his love of Scotland and all things X Factor.
Here’s 6 weird and wonderful things we learned:
1. He loves music from Scotland
“I love a bit of Biffy Clyro, they’re a really great band. I’m also a huge Paolo fan! He’s just got such a great tone to his voice and obviously some brilliant songs. I wish I’d written, Pencil Full of Lead. It’s one of my favourite songs of all time.”
2. And the cuisine takes his fancy…
“I really like Irn-Bru. I haven’t tried a deep fried Mars Bar yet, but it’s on my list.”
3. His friends list reads like a Who’s Who of pop stars
“I’d consider Robbie Williams a good mate of mine. I love catching up with people like Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, but we’re all quite busy so it tends to be when I meet them at a gig or if we’re on the same TV show. I’m also good friends with Niall Horan and Marvin Humes.”
4. We think he might be this footballer’s No.1 fan…
“A personal highlight has to be David Beckham… [in response to the question: ‘Who’s your favourite famous person that you’ve met?”] My first celeb crush was Victoria Beckham (or Posh Spice as I call her), but that was only because I wanted to be David Beckham.”
5. He’s fairly coy if you mention women…
“I never used to get any attention when I was a teenager – my mates used to get all the girls and I’d just be the one messing around and making girls laugh. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very flattering that I do get attention now, but I like to think that I don’t take myself too seriously.”
6. But he might whisk you away for weekend if you take his fancy
“I am quite a romantic guy! Planning a surprise weekend away [for a girl] always seems to go down quite well.”
