It all gets too much for Susan Boyle

There are reports today that Susan has been admitted to The Priory clinic in London last night after ITV officials grew worried about he behaviour.

Saturday night's shock defeat to dance group Diversity is said to have had an ill effect on Susan's mental health.

Whilst at her hotel yesterday, aides from the show are said to have called the police after worrying that Susan was "acting strangely".

A police spokesperson has said, "We were called about 6pm on Sunday to a central London hotel to doctors assessing a woman under the Mental Health Act. Police attended at the request of ambulance personnel and the woman was taken voluntarily to a clinic. No one was arrested and there were no allegations of crime."

Insiders from Britain's Got Talent have said that Susan was suffering from exhaustion and was "emotionally drained."

Although she was devastated at her loss Piers Morgan thinks not winning is the best thing that could have happened to Susan. He said, "I do think it may turn out to be the best thing that happens to her, coming second. I think she has found a lot of it quite hard to deal with and I think the pressure of actually winning and living up to all that expectation would have just carried on the mayhem for her."

Tell us what you think - did the backlash against Susan cause her to lose or were Diversity just the better act? And what do you think about the suggestions that she shouldn't have been in the competition at all as she was not mentally equipped to handle the pressure - do you agree or think this is discrimination?

It is very sad that Susan is having a meltdown but it makes me wonder how she would cope with a singing career after this. If she does get a contract or gets a book published then she will get a lot of publicity which is what put a lot of pressure on her in the first place. Everyone deserves a chance where talent is concerned but her health should be taken into consideration.

I wish she'd won, and made all that bad press worthwhile - but I hope she'll go on to have a brilliant career nonetheless, she certainly deserves it. btw, I think she'd have done better to choose a new song .. she sang cry me a river superbly ..

I think Susan is an incredible singer but Diversity were absolutely, totally unbelievable - the perfection in their synchronisation and the uniqueness of their dancing left me breathless. The press, though, should leave Susan alone - she is a human being not a commodity. Also... yes. she had every right to be in the competition. She has huge talent, she went into it willingly hoping to gain recognition. Good luck to her.

I think Diversity were absolutely fantastic. All the acts were under the same amount of pressure and also had a lot of publicity. You have to remember that there were also 3 children in the final and they were amazing and handled everything astonishingly well. Susan was good but so were all the other acts and I think the Diversity won for the sole reason that they were the better act. I do think that anyone who has a talent should quite rightly be given the chance to enter Britain's Got Talent just like the youngsters did. Susan had the chance to back down but she chose to carry on into the final which she was entitled to do. There are countless of people with numerous kinds of disabilities but that doesn't mean that they should be excluded. The show is not called 'Britain's Got Talent - excluding children and/or disabled people'. To the question of whether or not Susan didn't win because of all the hype - maybe she got a few more votes because of people taking pitty on her and voting more for her because of that. I thought Flawless also deserved to get through to the final 3 and I though Stavros Flatley was great.

susan boyle has a raw natural talent that has laid dormant for most of her life. It is wonderful t5hat the talent is being shown to the world. But , on the day, DIVERSITY were the more exciting act. Susan has a singing future without a bash at the royal variety show.

Diversity were the better act on the night, and there were several acts which would have been worthy winners, I don't think it was a set-up and I agree it was better for Susan that she didn't win she would have had a very hard time with the inevitable pressure. I don't think people with special needs should be excluded from showing us their talents they do need lots of support from family, friends and professionals though.

There were other acts better than diversity. I feel that Susan was brilliant after all the aggravation that she had been through, without which I am sure she would have sailed into the No1 spot

Leave the poor lass alone. If any ordinary person had the world press in their faces for 7 weeks how would they react? Being on the front page of newspapers, interviewed on American chat shows - I know it would be too much me! She has an amazing voice and I for one wish her every success. Good luck Susan

she has a mental illness that was apparent from her first appearance. If she had won her behaviour would have been too erratic. She was never going to win. Although diversity were excellent i feel it was another set up

I think she should have been offered more support as it was fairly obvious she wasn't equipped to handle the pressure - a psycjologist gave warning last week. And where were her family, apart from giving interviews? They were the ones who shoudl have helped her along the way. At the end of the day Diversity were the more popular act, and deserved their win.

I think diversity were superb in the final and were definitely the best act. Susan was good but they were better in that performance. I worry about her as she does have slight learning difficulties and would appear not to have the support that she needs for this massive change in her life

lorina at 11:39 on 1st Jun 2009

I think if she had won she would have lost it completely with all the media hype at the start it was too much for her to cope with something was bound to snap.

Karen at 9:50 on 1st Jun 2009

I think Piers is right cos coming second will be better for Susan it means she can have a bit of time out of the spotlight to get better
