Father denies trying to sell Rubina

News broke this weekend that Slumdog Millionaire child actress Rubina was caught up in a ploy by her father to sell her for £200,000.

Rubina and her family live in the poverty stricken slums of Mumbai which were depicted in the film. Her father claims the nine-year-old actress was paid only £2000 for her role in the movie which has made £185 million to date.

Her father was alleged to have offered an undercover reporter his daughter in exchange for £200,000 in an illegal adoption. This obviously outraged the public who worried that an illegal adoption would not be regulated by authorities and could thereby lead to Rubina being bought by unsuitable people or possibly a pedophile ring.

But Rubina's father Rafiq has denied these reports saying that during the meeting with the reporter he could not understand everything that was being discussed and was under the impression that the meeting was to discuss a well paying film role.
