Taxpayers foot Oprah Oz bill
Oprah Winfrey kicked off the start of her final ever TV season with a bang, by being the ever generous host we all know and love her for. She told the audience and crew that every one of them - all 450 of them - would be going on the trip of a lifetime to Australia - for free!
This of course went down a storm with everyone in the studio and there was lots of buzz in the media about how unstoppable and giving Oprah is.
But shortly after the show aired, it came out that billionaire Oprah is not actually footing the bill for the mass exodus trip to Oz, the Australian tax payers are and they are not a happy bunch about it.
It turns out that the Australian Tourist Board will be paying for the flights and accommodation at a price of $2.3 million.
Apparently this has caused fury down under as they can't fathom why Oprah staged a publicity stunt over this 'gift' she was giving to fans only for it to turn out that their tax money was actually going to pay for the trip.
