Michael Douglas on the mend

Michael Douglas last week spoke about the progress of his battle with throat cancer. The 66-year-old, who was diagnosed with the disease just over five months ago, has said, "The odds are, with the tumour gone and what I know about this particular type of cancer, that I've got it beat."

Although Michael did admit that he would still have to go into hospital for monthly checks, he and wife Catherine Zeta Jones are said to be delighted with the good news.

When Michael was diagnosed he was told that the cancer was at stage four and he was given a 50/50 chance of survival.

However at last night's Golden Globes he was looking great and proud wife Catherine asked reporters, "Isn't he looking better?"

When Michael took to the stage to present an award he was given a standing ovation by the entire auditorium.

As he approached the mic he joked, "There's gotta be an easier way to get a standing ovation."

We wish him all the best in his recovery.

I have lost a mum and dad to cancer at a young age so it is great to see someone beat this horrible disease. Good luck to Michael and his family and I hope he has many happy years ahead of him.
