Once again it's all about X

The first live shows have kicked off with a bang, and just before the first show aired Cheryl Cole was apparently forced to publicly admit that it was not the show's producers who told her not to choose Gamu after all.

Cheryl said, "I just want to set the record straight and tell everyone that the three girls I have chosen to take through to the live shows were chosen by me and Will, and the final choice was, and always is, my decision."

"I understand completely why everybody felt so strongly towards Gamu. I thought she was great too, like all eight girls. But what the public saw was an edited version of what the audition process actually involves."

Cheryl continued, "I was not aware of Gamu’s situation outside of the competition and I am incredibly sad for both her and her family. But I have to stress that it did not have any influence over my choice."

Meanwhile Simon has come forward to say that he and Cheryl have not had a falling out and that he is keen to help Gamu, "No. Cheryl and I haven’t had a fight, yet! And I certainly couldn’t tell her what to do even if I wanted to. We are helping Gamu and her family as much as possible and have lawyers working with her lawyers, not because we have to but because I really feel for their situation, and that’s outside of the show. We were unaware there would be any problem with her visa until this week."

But let's get back to the live show - we love hearing your opinions! So tell us, who won the style war Dannii or Cheryl? Has either Katie or Cher gone up in your estimations? What did you think of the song choices and did the right people go last night? Come on... spill!

I disagree completely with all these comments. Gamu in my opinion was arrogant and did not have a pleasant personality, the wild card Trayce was way better as was the little girl who was the diana ross impersonator. As for Cheryl V Danni, there is no one on tv more condesending and false than Danni( perhaps Amanda Holden) Cheryl is down to earth and consistently look beautiful. Danni looked like an old maid on Saturday with her rollered hair and lace dress. I dont particularly like Cher however I have no experience on how to market entertainers and therefore cannot comment on why she is in the top 3.

I am not going to slate either Katie or Cher because at the end of the day it was Cheryl who put them through. Cheryl can say what she wants to try and sweet talk her way out of this by saying the programme was edited but Gamu has always gave a faultless performance and should have been picked for the top three.

Katie was poor in both performances... I really don't see why she was saved. I'm getting very cynical about the show and starting to wonder why I watch... It seems there's a sub-plot going on that we're not supposed to be aware of and the show instead of being about popular choice and talent, is a vehicle to earn Simon more money

katie is rubbish, cannot believe she was picked and then saved yesterday, her song in the bottom two she sang was more like saying the words, really wanted her to leave yesterday and vagnar

Personally I don't agree with Cheryl's choices at all, how could Gamu be cut out and Katie still be in it even though Katie is an accomplished singer who has had albums released worldwide, hangs out with celebrities, has even sung for the queen! Surely Katie still being allowed to carry on is cheating and against the rules. Cheryl has lost me as a fan, and many more. It wont be something she will easily recover from and I agree Danni certainly beats Cheryl in the style stakes, she has more class and elegance about her.

personally i think cher is rubbish and last nights performance was below average. I can't see what all the hype is about her - is it just because she throws a little rap in every so often.

Katie is Rubbish, Cheryl is way off beam with both Katie & Cher, Gamu was much better than either....Mary was amazing..long live the 'oldies'...Cheryl can whistle for a winner this year!!

And i also think the wrong people went last night let's get Katie out before we start cutting the other acts

I think Dannii upstages Cheryl at every turn. She's so lovely and lady like and Cheryl seems like she's struggling to compete

Dannii won hands down Cheryl looked bright orange and chavvy I'm starting to think the gilt is wearing off the lily when it comes to Cheryl

did not agree with cheryls choices, gamu to me was a potential winner.also not pleased with the judges who saved katie, certain that public vote would have seen her out, still we will vote her off next vote
