Amy: The tributes pour in
This weekend saw many tragedies and senseless deaths, but being a showbiz website it seems only fitting that we focus on the death of a troubled musician who changed the face of music with her heartrendingly personal bluesy songs.
Amy Winehouse died aged 27 on Saturday, the cause of death is yet to be revealed but unfortunately, it had been foretold for some time.
The tributes have been pouring in, with Lady Gaga saying, "Amy changed pop music forever. I remember knowing there was hope, and feeling not alone because of her. She lived jazz, she lived the blues."
And that she did. Those closest to Amy knew that her addictions would get the best of her one day and though her family, in particular her father, battled to get her healthy, all the money, time and effort could not 'fix' the slightly built musical genius who was forever described as a lost soul.
Russell Brand, himself a former addict, wrote a long tribute to the late singer on his website.
In the tribute he said, "When you love someone who suffers from the disease of addiction you await the phone call. There will be a phone call. The sincere hope is that the call will be from the addict themselves, telling you they’ve had enough, that they’re ready to stop, ready to try something new. Of course though, you fear the other call, the sad nocturnal chime from a friend or relative telling you it’s too late, she’s gone.
Frustratingly it’s not a call you can ever make it must be received. It is impossible to intervene."
Our thoughts are with her family at this time and the family of those lost in Norway this weekend. |
