Alcohol the reason for Gately's death?

Recent reports are indicating that the death of the Boyzone singer was due to alcohol. Although experts have still to confirm whether this is the case.

Sources involved in the police investigation are suggesting that the singer returned from a night out drinking and fell asleep then choked on his own vomit.

A spokesperson for Stephen's family said "It's just a tragic accident is what we've been told and we're happy that is correct information. "It's not drugs, we don't believe, it's not suicide, it's not murder, it's not a fight."

The family are devastated and have asked me to take calls for the moment. They're trying to come to terms with it."

Manager, Louis Walsh pulled out of The Factor live show and headed to Majorca to be with the rest of Boyzone and Stephens husband.

UPDATE: Post-mortem results announced on Tuesday concluded that Gately had died from natural causes. A judge said his body could now be returned home from Majorca.

My thoughts are with his family and friends. He was a very talented person and well like by all. Who's life has been cut short. He will be sadly missed.

Why does this make headlines - until an official report is received there should be no speculation as this just adds to the pain and feelings of loss for the family and does not show respect for privacy at such a sad time. Understand that it is news but it could be reported in a more caring way.

What a tragic event - people don't realise the serious risk of choking when you are too drunk to be sick.

Irritated Friend at 12:39 on 13th Oct 2009

That is simply not true! Why do people always look for the worst? It is so hurtful at a difficult time for Stephen's friends and family. According to an interview with his lawyer, which is probably more reliable, he was actually only out in town for a couple of hours.
